In light of recent news coverage and the global impact of Zika virus on patients and pregnant women, the topic for tuberculosis resistance has been changed. Dr Kamran Khan, one of the world’s leading experts in the complex relationship between globalization, air travel and the worldwide spread of infectious diseases will discuss the rapid spread of Zika virus and its impact on global travel and health.

Dr. Kamran Khan is a practicing infectious disease physician at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, a Scientist in the Keenan Research Centre of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He completed his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Toronto and then completed his Masters in Public Health at Columbia University.
Dr. Khan is one of the world’s leading experts in the complex relationship between globalization, air travel and the worldwide spread of infectious diseases. Inspired by the 2003 SARS epidemic in Toronto, Dr. Khan has focused his research on studying the global airline transportation network as a “living” conduit for the international spread of emerging and reemerging pathogens. You may recognize him from his frequent appearances on the CBC and BBC.
Dr. Khan is the founder of Blue Dot, a web-based application that he developed to anticipate how infectious diseases can spread in an increasingly interconnected world. Paralleling his clinical work, Dr. Khan studies the most effective ways to detect and control reemerging diseases like tuberculosis in immigrant and refugee populations.
