RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Education/conference leave: Financial support as well as paid education leave provided as per Pharmacy Education and Reseach Committee (PERC) guidelines

Minimum required credentials: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy & licensure in Alberta

Program highlights: General residency program involving rotations in drug information, distribution, administration and clinical rotations such as internal medicine, hematology/oncology, bone marrow tranplants, pain and palliative care, neuro oncology, pediatric oncology, and breast cancer. As this is a regional program, rotations may be offered at either the Cross Cancer Institute, the Tom Baker Cancer Centre or other AHS hospital sites. Residents must also complete a research project during the year.

Required Rotations: (duration; site choices): Rotations offer the residents experience in the cancer centres and hospitals in Edmonton and Calgary: 
Drug Information: (4 weeks; Regional DI Center UAH or PLC DI Centre)
Drug Distribution: 3-4 weeks; CCI, TBCC
Administration: 1-2 weeks; CCI, TBCC
Acute Care Adult Oncology CCI, Unit 57 FMC
Pain and Palliative Care: 4 weeks, CCI, TBCC
Hematology/Oncology: 4 weeks CCI, TBCC
Internal Medicine: 6 weeks ; UAH, MCH, RAH, FMC, PLC
Pediatric Oncology: 4 weeks, UAH, ACH
Bone Marrow Transplant: 4 weeks, CCI, TBCC
Resedency Research Project: 8-9 weeks

Elective Rotations: Chosen based on interests of the resident and the availability of the rotations. There is enough time allotted to allow for one elective rotation of 4 weeks’ duration. The rotations listed below are a summary of available rotation sites at the present time. There is a possibility that additional rotation sites may open up with the addition of new practice areas.

  • Neuro oncology (TBCC)
  • Breast Cancer (CCI)
  • Infectious Disease (UAH, RAH)
