RESIDECY PROGRAM

Program highlights: The resident is expected to develop skills to become independent thinkers/learners by assuming responsibility for learning, recognizing their own deficiencies, and to be able to independently problem solve. The ability to think critically, communicate effectively and manage their time efficiently will be important skills to develop. Learning takes place at the two acute care facilities and the Rehabilitation/Long Term Care facility and will focus on various clinical environments. The resident has the opportunity for a focused research project related to health care organization pharmacy practice. An administration rotation is also included during the year.

Required Rotations:

  • Pharmacy Practice (includes IV admixtures, Clinical Process, Pharmacokinetics)
  • Cardiology
  • Internal Medicine
  • Evidence Based Medicine/Knowledge Translation
  • Practice Management
  • Nephrology
  • Long Term Care/Rehabilitation
  • Ambulatory Care
  • Preceptorship

Elective Rotations:

Generally a resident is able to complete 2 elective rotations that are of 3 to 4 weeks in duration and include:

  • Critical Care
  • Psychiatry
  • Surgery

Minimum required credentials: Graduate from a recognized college or school of pharmacy. One or more years in practice desirable.

Type: Includes two acute hospitals, one long term care/rehab facility, home care, public and mental health programs, and is affiliated with several long term care facilities
