RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Est. stipend: $30,000 with an obligation to work 2 years in Hospital in Quebec ("Ministère de la santé et des services sociaux" du Québec, QC applicants)

Vacation/holiday leave: 3 weeks  

Education/conference leave: 7 days

Program highlights: Hospital pharmacy practice master's degree (16-month residency). In-class teaching (19 credits), clinical clerkships in specialties (34 credits) and research project (7 credits). Residents expected to become skilled and autonomous in provision of pharmaceutical care, provide drug info to patients & other health care professionals, prepare and conduct research project, become role models for undergraduate students. During clerkships, one to one relationship with a mentor is deemed essential.

Required Rotations:  

1 X 4 weeks Drug Information rotation
1X4 weeks Distribution rotation
1 X 8 weeks Internal Medicine rotation
1 X 8 weeks clinical rotation with hospitalized patients
2 X 4 weeks clinical rotation with hospitalized patients
2 X 4 weeks ambulatory rotations
1X8 weeks Data Collection vs research project

Minimum required credentials:

The candidate must:

  • have a Bachelor degree in pharmacy from the Université de Montréal with a cumulative average grade of 3,0/4.3 or an equivalent pharmacy degree;
  • have taken and succeeded two mandatory preliminary courses: PHM 2420- Produits stériles and PHM 4810 Laboratoire de produits stériles or courses judged to be equivalent;
  • be eligible to obtain a pharmacy practice licence in the province of Quebec from the Quebec licensing body (Ordre des pharmaciens du Québec);
  • be fluent in written and spoken French since all classes are taught in French.
