Program Highlights:
This 52 week pharmacy residency program will prepare candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to establish a future collaborative interdisciplinary practice in ambulatory care. The emphasis will be on developing skills necessary for the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients in an ambulatory care environment.

The resident will gain experience providing evidence based direct patient care as a member of interprofessional teams under the supervision of model practitioners. The resident will learn about the operations of a hospital based pharmacy in an ambulatory care environment including distribution, medication therapy management and program planning. The resident will participate in patient and staff education, present formal lectures, case presentations, and journal clubs. The resident will be involved in various teaching activities, including precepting pharmacy students. The resident will develop project management, research and writing skills and will be expected to complete a research project manuscript suitable for publication at the completion of their training.

The learning environment at Women’s College Hospital provides the opportunity for interaction with undergraduate and post graduate students and trainees in a variety of health disciplines, as well as the opportunity to be directly involved in innovative patient care programs.

Rotations:

  • Core clinical rotations will be offered in the Family Practice Health Centre, Centre for Ambulatory Care Education (CACE) Complex Care Clinic (internal medicine), Osteoporosis Program, the Virtual Ward, and the Urgent Care Centre and Clinical Decisions Unit.
  • The resident will also complete rotations in drug information and evidence based medicine, teaching, research, administration & leadership, and drug distribution.

Minimum required credentials:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Degree from a Canadian or American accredited school of Pharmacy.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an intern, or pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
