RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Type: General (opportunity to subspecialize)
Focus: Advanced Pharmaceutical Care Practice

Vacation/holiday leave: 10 residency days  

Education/conference leave: at least 5 residency days

Program highlights: One year (full-time) or two year (part-time) program. Develops self-directed practitioners with advanced skills in practice of pharmaceutical care. Emphasizes "learning through experiencing" in pharmaceutical care, drug distribution, and personal practice management skills. Structured, but allows flexibility to meet resident's learning needs. Residents receive financial support to attend pharmacy professional education at the regional or national level. Excellent communications technology, drug info & office facilities available.

Required Rotations: Medication Use System Orientation (2wk); Drug Information (3wk; Regional DI Centre); Interprofessional Practice Systems (3wk; 1 tertiary site); Internal Medicine (5wk; 1 tertiary site); one of Ambulatory Care or Critical Care (5wk; community & tertiary sites available); Clinical Practice Capstone (4 wk; multiple sites available); Project (9wk as 2 rotations; site options vary by project) ; Preceptorship (2 wk); Administration (2wk).

Elective Rotations:
Available weeks ~15 (3-4wk rotations). Rotations (number of sites available): adult med/surg ICU (2 ), neonatal/pediatric ICU (2), Renal Health (4), Psychiatry (2), Infectious Diseases (1), Oncology (1), Family Medicine (1), Rheumatology (1), Transplantation (2), Geriatrics (1), Orthopedics (1); Primary Care/ Emergency (3); HIV Ambulatory Care (2); Diabetes Education Resource Centre for Children and Adolescents (1); Safe Medication Practices (multi-site); Supervisory Skills (multi-site); any required rotation can be repeated as an elective (# sites as above). Opportunity to subspecialize/build new rotations to meet learning needs.

Minimum required credentials: Canadian citizens/landed immigrants with pharmacy degree from a recognized College; eligible for licensure in Manitoba. Must obtain a criminal records check, child abuse registry check, Manitoba pharmacist license & become a member of CSHP during residency year.
