About the Hospital Pharmacy in Canada Survey Report
The Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists is pleased to announce the publication of the Hospital Pharmacy in Canada Survey Report 2020/21. For over 30 years, the Report has been the comprehensive resource on hospital pharmacy practice in Canada with information on professional practice of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, drug distribution, human resources, and pharmacy technology. This is the 22nd edition of the HPC Report and is the work of the Hospital Pharmacy in Canada Survey Board, an affiliated board of volunteer members of CSHP, led by Executive Editor Richard Jones and managed by Carolyn Dittmar, Managing Editor.
Despite being conducted during the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Report achieved an impressive 63% response rate.
Fully open-access and available to all, the HPC Survey Report offers a wealth of data to a variety of hospital pharmacy professionals, legislators, regulators, academics, students, pharmaceutical companies, governments and policy setting bodies. The report is used for a variety of purposes which includes setting research agendas as well as identifying and benchmarking best practices that will help leaders in hospitals or in government to make effective decisions.
The most extensive Report ever produced, this edition features two unique chapters:
one on the impact of COVID-19 on hospital pharmacy services and
another on Canada’s small hospitals (less than 50 acute care beds) which now forms the foundational data set for a continuing segment on pharmacy practice in small hospitals. The small hospitals response rate was 59%.
We are grateful to the pharmacy teams, volunteers, and supporters for their contribution to the survey and to documenting an accurate presentation of the state of hospital pharmacy in Canada. We are grateful to our corporate sponsors, Pfizer Canada, Pharmascience/Pendopharm, and Baxter Canada for their funding to cover technical production, French translation, publication, and copyediting. This report simply wouldn’t have been possible without their financial support.
