The BC Cancer Pharmacy Practice Residency Program is a 1-year experiential learning program. The program will help the resident develop core skills in direct patient care primarily in an oncology environment. At the completion of the program, the resident will have the ability to successfully manage an independent clinical practice in any practice setting, and demonstrate competence in leadership, interprofessional collaboration, teaching and project management.
Residency training will occur at various BC Cancer regional cancer centres. Although most of the time will be spent within the Lower Mainland, the resident will be required to travel to cancer centres outside the Lower Mainland to experience unique practices for some rotations. A travel stipend will be provided.
Core Rotations: *
- Non-Direct Patient Care Rotations – Program Orientation, Drug Distribution/IV Admixture, Practice Management, Drug Information, Evidence Based Medicine and Pharmacokinetics, Medication Safety, Teaching and Preceptorship
- Direct Patient Care Rotations – Clinical Orientation, Internal Medicine, Acute Oncology Care, Ambulatory Oncology Care, Pain and Symptom Management/Palliative Care, Breast Cancer, Gastrointestinal Malignancies, Lymphoma
- Research Project (longitudinal)

Type: BC Cancer is one of the largest cancer care organizations in Canada and provides a comprehensive cancer control program for residents of British Columbia. It is also a centre of excellence in oncology academia and research, and offers a number of advanced oncology training programs. Currently, there are 6 BC Cancer regional cancer centres:

- BC Cancer – Prince George
* Residents will spend a total of 60 or more training days at this site during the Residency Program.
In addition, Provincial Pharmacy is a team of specialized pharmacists and support staff that provides expertise in areas including drug information, medication safety, workplace safety regarding hazardous drugs, drug budget management, and development of oncology drug monographs and chemotherapy protocols. BC Cancer also partners with a collaborative network of hospitals in all BC health authorities to provide chemotherapy services to patients across the province.
