Draft Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Non-Sterile Preparations

Consultation: NAPRA’s draft Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Non-Sterile Preparations

The National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) has released, for external consultation, its Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Non-Sterile Preparations. The Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP), along with other organizations, is invited to provide feedback on the proposed draft.

With regards to the present consultation phase, please note the following:

CSHP members may access the invitation from NAPRA, the draft document, and template on CSHP’s website. NAPRA’s template for providing feedback must be used (available on CSHP’s website).  Completed templates are to be sent to Cathy Lyder, Coordinator of Professional and Membership Affairs by November 30, 2016. The feedback will then be compiled into one document and submitted to NAPRA by noon Eastern Time on December 9, 2016. The identity of individual respondents or organizations will not be shared with NAPRA.

In 2016, NAPRA released its Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Non-hazardous Sterile Preparations. Later this summer, NAPRA is planning to release the second of 3 model standards: Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Hazardous Sterile Preparations. Once the third document, Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Non-Sterile Preparations, is finalised, NAPRA will have achieved its goal of developing a 3-part suite of model standards regarding compounding.
