St. Michael's Hospital, part of the newly formed Unity Health Toronto Network, is currently seeking a Manager, Pharmacy Professional Operations, to complement the operational leadership team of Pharmacy Managers. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as the point of leadership and accountability for pharmacy and pharmacists professional operations, with a specific focus on the safety and efficiency of the main pharmacy as part of the complex corporate medication system
  • Performs recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management of all  pharmacists who are involved in the main pharmacy
  • Manages overall function of the Research Pharmacy area as part/extension of the main pharmacy
  • Manages budgets related to domains of responsibility, in collaboration with other relevant managers
  • Plans and manages professional operations of the main pharmacy according to regulatory, safety and best practice requirements
  • Collaborate with other Pharmacy managers who oversees other domains of the operation such as technical aspects, safety aspects, technology and financial aspects
  • Maintains awareness of published literature and current developments in medication systems/technology/processes, supports development of proposals/business cases, and manages the implementation of new systems/services in the professional operations domain in collaboration with other pharmacy leaders
  • Leads or participates in committees and other initiatives pertaining to efficient operations of the main pharmacy
  • Serves as clinical content specialist for drug contracting processes and serves as St. Michael’s designate on pharmacy Group Purchasing Organization committees
  • Enables and supports departmental research, culture of discovery and education mandates
  • Establishes and maintains relevant collaborative networks and working relationships within and beyond the hospital and Network

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered as a Pharmacist with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Part A).
  • An advanced degree in pharmacy or other relevant field (e.g., Doctor of Pharmacy or Masters of Business Administration/ Health Administration); and ideally advanced practice training, certification, or residency
  • Minimum of eight years of clinical/ pharmacy practice experience in a teaching hospital environment, demonstrating progressive degrees of leadership, ideally including supervisory experience, and including experience in the domains of quality/process improvement, medication management, medication safety, clinical trials, and drug utilization analysis
  • Superb leadership, supervisory, team, coaching, collaboration, conflict management, customer service, and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional skills in critical analysis, creative problem solving, change/project management, organization of work, and able to meet deadlines and achieve deliverables
  • Excellent communication (written/verbal, presentation), facilitation, persuasion, and negotiation skills
  • Computer application skills (e.g., spread sheets, presentations, etc.) – intermediate level
