Vacation/holiday leave: 3 weeks vacation with two weeks scheduled in December    
Education/conference leave: $1250 stipend provided to support attendance at a hospital pharmacy conference (e.g., PPC in Toronto, CSHP Western Branches Banff Conference).  Residents also attend the Manitoba Saskatchewan Management Seminar and the CSHP SK Branch AGM, when possible.

Program highlights: Competency based program which encourages residents to develop knowledge, skills and values required to excel as a practitioner. In striving towards provision of pharmaceutical care, emphasis is placed on identifying, solving, and preventing drug-related problems. Experiential learning environment using practitioner role models is the primary method of education. This philosophy promotes development of competent, progressive practitioners and nurtures future leaders. Twelve month program includes series of mandatory immersion and mandatory and elective excursion rotations. Original research project selected by resident must be completed. Supported by contemporary pharmacy services at 3 acute care hospitals, as well as ambulatory and home care settings.

Required Rotations:

  • Drug Distribution – 5 weeks
  • Direct Patient Care Skills/Drug Information rotation – 3 weeks

Immersion rotations, required:
#1: Adult medicine or pediatrics – 7-8 weeks and
#2: Adult medicine or critical care or pediatrics or primary care – 5-6 weeks

Excursion rotations, required:
Adult medicine - 3-4 weeks (if adult medicine immersion rotation not completed)
Ambulatory care – 4 weeks in primary care or geriatrics (if primary care immersion rotation not completed)
Practice Management and Drug Use Control – sessions scheduled throughout the year
Clinical Instructor for Structured Practice Experiences Program – 5 weeks
Final Competency (capstone) rotation – 3-4 weeks

Anticoagulation Management Services – 3 weeks
Antimicrobial Stewardship/Infectious Diseases – 3-4 weeks
Critical care – 4 weeks
Emergency – 3-4 weeks
Geriatrics – 3-4 weeks
Home care – 3 weeks
NICU – 3 weeks
Pediatrics – 4 weeks
PICU – 3 weeks
Renal services  – 4 weeks
Rx Files – 3 weeks
Transplant – 3-4 weeks

Minimum required credentials: Baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy
