Call for Expressions of Interest: CSHP/CPRB Task Force on Future of Residency Programs in Canada

June 25, 2026

Deadline for applications: July 20th, 2026

The Canadian Society of Healthcare-Systems Pharmacy (CSHP) and the Canadian Pharmacy Residency Board (CPRB) are seeking expressions of interest from individuals interested in serving on the Future of Pharmacy Residency Programs in Canada Task Force

The Task Force has been established to examine the current and emerging opportunities and challenges affecting the sustainability, accessibility, and growth of pharmacist residency programs in Canada and to develop recommendations that support the long-term viability of residency training nationally.

Pharmacy residency programs play a critical role in preparing healthcare-system-ready pharmacists with advanced clinical, leadership, research, and practice skills. However, residency programs across Canada are facing increasing pressures, including declining application numbers, workforce shortages, financial constraints, preceptor capacity challenges, and evolving healthcare system needs.

The Task Force will provide strategic advice and recommendations to CSHP and CPRB to help strengthen the residency pathway and support the future of pharmacy practice in Canada.

Candidate Criteria
The Task Force will reflect diverse perspectives from across Canada.

We are seeking individuals with experience or expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Healthcare-system pharmacy leadership, including pharmacy directors and managers
  • Residency coordination or program administration
  • Residency program leadership (Year-1 and/or Year-2 programs)
  • Residency preceptorship
  • Academic pharmacy education
  • Workforce planning, recruitment, and retention
  • Advanced pharmacy practice and specialization

Efforts will be made to ensure geographic representation from across Canada, diversity of practice settings, and inclusion of varied perspectives and lived experiences.

In addition to Task Force membership, broader consultation will occur with current and recent pharmacy residents, students, employers, and other interested parties throughout the project.

Term of Appointment
The Task Force will begin its work in Fall 2026 and continue through Fall 2027.

Activities may include:

  • Virtual meetings
  • Review of background materials and environmental scans
  • Participation in engagement activities
  • Development and review of recommendations and reports
